LOTR - No comfort
I know that all of you have heard it by now, but I want to send my own little memorial.

Heath Ledger, rest in peace. You had a great talent and a promising career. You will be missed.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph on a stick, people.

I understand your desire not to support LJ, to leave, to not pay, to go about your business as usual, blah, blah, blah. You have your choice (and be thankful for that).

But this? Is only the tip of the iceberg. It's a small entity. For all the U.S. citizens out there, have you called or written your Congressperson/mayor/governor/president? Do you know what's going on in the world? Do you follow the news? Do you vote? For all Canadians/Australians/British/French/Kenyan/Chinese/martians/trekkies/whathaveyou, have you called your leaders? Have you marched? Have you done something too?

Yes, we have to start small, but there is other stuff to be done and bigger fish to fry.

So let's do it.

Let me see the beauty
Okay.

Some Rufus Wainwright videos:

Everybody Knows - Fantastic. Just fantastic.

The Maker Makes - The song just makes me want to bawl anyway. And this video? Intensifies it more.

And the Dixie Chicks' Travelin' Soldier. I love them. And another - Long Time Gone. One of my favorite songs from them. And one more - Top of the World. Yep. Without You. And the Star Spangled Banner.

Look, it's Josh Groban's turn to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Oh man, Celine Dion and Josh doing The Prayer. Why don't I have the mp3 for this?!?!?

Here's Micheal Buble singing the Spiderman theme song. (courtesy of [info]sinful_caesar)

My god. Youtube is addictive. It's almost 1:30 in the morning, and I have to go to work tomorrow/today.

Some of my favorite quotations:

1. "I believe in two things: discipline and the Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank."

2. Andy Dufresne - who crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side.

3. Andy Dufresne: I have no enemies here.
Red: Yeah? Wait a while. Word gets around. The Sisters have taken quite a likin' to you. Especially Boggs.
Andy Dufresne: I don't suppose it would help if I told them that I'm not homosexual.
Red: Neither are they. You have to be human first. They don't qualify.

Joshua Bell played in the Metro and no one knew who he was. This was a really neat article. To have seen Joshua Bell play live....

*~*

Well, it was my first day at work. And well, it was okay. Typical orientation and meeting new people and learning new things. But I'm exhausted now, and pretty much just made this post to give everyone that Joshua Bell link.

Good night.

April is National Poetry Month. People have been posting their favorite poems, and I shall too. I'm not a fan of poetry normally, but I do like certain ones.

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Apparently, there is to be people and movies and possibly, a beer or two tonight.

So can anybody help a girl out?

Does anyone know of the Firefox extension where Google brings up the most popular searches for what you type in?

I just watched one of my favorite all-time ST:TNG episodes, "The Perfect Mate". Famke Janssen stars as the empathic metamorph who bonded with Picard. She is absolutely stunning in that role.

March Madness update:

At the time of my post, Arkansas is losing to USC by 20 with around 2.5 minutes left.

So. We're going to count Arkansas as a loss.

This means I have 25 out 32 correct in my bracket. That's 78%. I'm very okay with that.

Also, I called Winthrop. Awesome.

Chiquita charged in terror investigation - Really? This should not come as a surprise to ANYONE. NO ONE AT ALL.

OMG. International fruit companies in Central and South America have been doing crap like this for ages. I doubt this is going to actually change anything, but maybe the more the public knows, the more things could change.

OMG.

The weather is fantastic here.

I went out for a walk. I'm wearing capris. The windows are open.

Oh, the windows are open. I miss that so much it hurts.

And the apartment is airing out.

Yay.

The SGA addiction is still growing.

John Sheppard is the best part of the show. The sexiness, the facial expressions and the snark with McKay? Fantastic.

Mmmm.

Also, GIP.

However, the show is really quite cheesy. It hasn't reached SeaQuest portions at all, but I don't think it compares anywhere near to the Star Treks in terms of social/political/economic issues addressed.

I just watched the trailer to Blades of Glory.

Oh. My. God.

It shames me to say that I will watch this movie.

Harry Potter
I'm watching The Goblet of Fire right now. I haven't seen it since I bought the DVD the first week it came out.

I love the book. It's my favorite. Cedric's death was the worst for me out of the deaths in the books so far.

However, the movie is something else.

It's too quick - the scenes are too jumpy. Hermione is annoying as hell, and she's one of my favorite characters in the whole series.

Dumbledore hitting Harry? Just no.

Cedric is cute, and while I don't like Barty Crouch Jr in the book, David Tennant is kind of cute too. (As a side note, I want Casanova to come to DVD soon so that I can get it on Netflix.)

*continues to watch*

Batman has issues
Yay! We have a title now! WOOT.

Okay. I'm going to be a total bitch and say that the title of the book is not a spoiler.

You can go into a store and say, "OMG. Don't tell me the end."

You can't go into a store and say, "OMG. Don't tell me the title of the book."

That is all.

I can understand the discussion of the title being a spoiler, but not the title itself.

Gacked from everyone. Here is a list of quotes--it brings up the random quotes. Your job is to go through until you find five that speak to you or reflect what you believe or whatever, and post them.

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.
Sir Winston Churchill

Never compare your inside with somebody else's outside.
Hugh Macleod, How To Be Creative

On the whole human beings want to be good, but not too good, and not quite all the time.
George Orwell

Try as hard as we may for perfection, the net result of our labors is an amazing variety of imperfectness. We are surprised at our own versatility in being able to fail in so many different ways.
Samuel McChord Crothers

Don't let the bastards grind you down.
General Joseph W. Stilwell

I tag everyone.

House MD - puppy dog face
Does anybody know where I can find the first un-aired episode of House?

I'm curious as to what it's like.
